The Company

Wizz Air is the largest CEE based low-fare - low-cost airline. Just a little over one year after the first scheduled flight on 19th May 2004, Wizz Air has carried close to 1.4 million passengers.

The plan to launch Wizz Air was only conceived in June 2003 when six people with a wide range of airline expertise as well as successful track records from across different industries teamed up with József Váradi, the Company's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. In just three months Wizz Air was registered as a company in London and operating subsidiaries were established in Hungary and Poland. Wizz Air took off on 19th May 2004, just six months after its foundation. The funding process of the airline was completed in January 2005 with 34 million euro provided by an international investor group lead by Indigo Partners. This made Wizz Air the best capitalized start-up airline in Europe.

Wizz Air is rapidly emerging in Central and Eastern Europe with the lowest cost and strong investor background to become the undisputed market leader in the region.

Network and airports

Wizz Air has established its bases in Katowice, Warsaw, Gdansk in Poland and Budapest in Hungary. From these four base airports Wizz Air flies to 17 European destinations on 32 routes. Wizz Air is committed to achieving the lowest cost base in the region and airport choice has a crucial importance to this. This is why Wizz Air - where possible - operates to secondary airports, which provide low costs that reflect in the price and provide friendly and fast customer service Wizz Air is in constant negotiations to establish a network of operations at more airports to provide unrivalled low-cost air transport for Central and Eastern Europe.
