Rzeszów-Jasionka Airport operates within the organizational structure of "Polish Airports" State Enterprise as a regional port handling the international air passenger and cargo traffic operations.
The airport is very conveniently situated in respect of its geographical location (the highest number of flight days), landform features (flat approach and no aviation obstacles), geopolitical factor (Rzeszów airport is located furthest east to all the EU communication airports and is the only civil airport in the south - east Poland).
It is located 10 kilometers from the center of Rzeszów, adjacent to the planned A-4 highway and national roads Nr 9 ( Rzeszów- Radom) and Nr 19 (Rzeszów-Lublin) and the future VIA BALTICA expressway.
The fact that a formal and legal status of the whole extensive area of the airport (over 650 ha) is regulated (there are only a few such airports in Poland) constitutes its undeniable asset.
Rzeszów-Jasionka Airport has the status of a civil airport (The Ministry of National Defense ultimately ceased its operations in July 1999).
The Logistics Center (one of the eight Logistics Centers in Poland) with the Podkarpacki Park of Science and Technology will be located nearby. As a part of this project Poczta Polska will erect its own Distribution Center, providing this way the employment opportunities for around 500 people and making good use of the air transport for mail parcels dispatch at the same time.
The region in which the airport is situated is constantly growing in popularity among transatlantic passengers (currently the fastest developing sector in Poland) and there is a big chance that the services of this sector will be extended to the borderland regions (Ukraine). The airport and region are thus challenged to secure the medium and long-range passenger connections and air cargo transport in the future.
Around 5 million people live in the vicinity of the airport.
The center of Polish aerospace industry located in the Podkarpackie Voivodship (named: "Aviation Valley" and the Rzeszów University of Technology with the only Faculty of Aeronautics and Flight School).
A document " Strategy of development for the Podkarpacie voivodship - 2000 -2006" claims that Rzeszów Airport is to contribute significantly to the future economic development of the region. The airport is to be an exemplary "window onto the world" and aims to alleviate the developmental differences between this economically untended region and other regions in Poland.
In spite of its civil status, the airport is also important to national defense needs - especially after Poland's accession to NATO.
The airport has the second longest runway (3.200m x 45m) in Poland.
The technical and navigational equipment of the airport and the operating customs control authorities ensure a continuous, practically limitless air traffic service.
