Hans-Jörg Dau dreamed of flying at a very early age. Even before he took his first driving lesson, the then16-year-old already had his pilot's license in his pocket.
When Hans-Jörg Dau founded the dauair AG in early 2005, it was only the logical consequence of his determined development:
Studied technical aerospace at the TU Braunschweig; won the "Berblinger-Prize for Innovative Development in Aviation"; founded the Dau-Tec, which concerns itself with aerospace prototype testing and development; his Dau 2004 won the BDO Founder Prize at the IHK Lübeck; Commisioner for the Federal Aviation Accident Investigation Agency – and now dauair, the "Low Cost Regional" (LCR) Airline seated in Lübeck with its operational base in Dortmund.
"Where there's a will, there's a way"
That's what his grandfather told him. He was - like his grandson Hans-Jörg - with heart and soul a businessman. 86 years ago, grandfather Hans laid the cornerstone for the family history by starting up an auto repair and towing business, which he later expanded to include an engine shop.
Motors and Maybach.
In 1938 Hans Dau took over the Maybach dealership for the entire country with 50 employees, obtained his own property and built a large company hall there. Neither the bombing in 1943 nor his need to flee was able to break his enterprising spirit.
In Lübeck he built a new company hall and successfully led his business until 1962, when he signed it over to his son, Heinz. Hans-Jörg Dau, born in Lübeck in 1967 inherited not only his grandfather's enterprising spirit, but also a passion for motors. Only these didn't propel Maybach automobiles on the street, but a Saab in the air.
"Ready for takeoff!"
Never give up!" is his motto, which is close to what he learned from his grandfather. Dau was also persistent in pursuing financial backing for his big dream and was able to convince the banks (even in these tough financial times) to give him the go-ahead to start his venture.
dauair is "ready for take-off" and will fly its passengers starting in April. Just like he insisted on the Westphalian location as the airline's starting base, Dau is consciously using the Internet as his major booking platform.Passengers can book their flights under www.dauair.com That saves time and money. And thriftiness is natural for the Hanseatic Dau. Instead of expensive bonus programs, dauair prefers to offer its passengers (mostly business travelers) reasonable prices and a comfortable flight. Yet dauair definitely distinguishes itself from the budget airlines. Instead of landing in a green field somewhere outside of the city, dauair lands right in the middle of things at major airports, therefore saving dauair passengers time and money.
