The John Paul II International Airport Krakow-Balice is located to the west of Krakow, at a distance of 11 km from the city centre. The airport can be reached from the centre of Krakow by four different roads; the airport possesses as well its own exit ramp from the A4 motorway.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT The bus stop is located directly at the roundabout, in front of the passenger terminal. Buses of the municipal transport authority (MPK S.A.) of Krakow no. 192 - from Plac Matejki, through Podwale Street and the Cracovia Hotel. 208 - from Nowy Kleparz, through the Miasteczko Studenckie (Students' Town) and Balicka Street X08 - from Filharmonia through Powisle Street (back- Zwierzyniecka Street), Aleje and Radzikowskiego Street The time-tables of these buses are available at www.mpk.krakow.pl.
The information desk is located in the central part of the passenger terminal. It includes a phone information desk available at (+ 48 012) 285 51 20, two information booths and a publicly available current information visual system.
In Kraków there is one hardened runway of the length of 2550 m and width 60 m. This runway has a concrete surface with PCN durability PCN 52/R/B/W/T and is suitable for the operation of most types of passenger and transport airplanes.
A parallel emergency runway with grass surface is located to the north of the runway.
To the south from the runway there is a parallel taxiway of the same length as the runway and width of 38/23 m. It is connected to the runway by 5 connectors. Two exit roads (A, F) from the runway are situated at its ends and additionally two taxiways ensure a connection between the runway and the airport building located in the vicinity of the runway's end.
The aeroplane parking apron is located approximately 300 metres from the edge of the run-way, opposite the buildings of the passenger and cargo terminal. Its western part was handed over for use at the end of 1997, with the eastern part following in December 2003. The total area of the apron is 92,000 m2. It can be used simultaneously as a parking area by 17 average-sized aeroplanes, including 1 B-747 class aeroplane, 5 B-767 class aeroplanes, 5 B-737 class aeroplanes, 3 ATR-72 class aeroplanes, 2 Cessna class aeroplanes, and one C-141B class aeroplane (cargo). The parking apron has a concrete surface with a PCN 60 load capacity.
